Made for His Glory

“Do everything you do to the glory of the one who made you because He made you to do every little thing that you do to bring a smile to His face, tell the story of Grace with every move that you make and every little thing you do”

This is the song that I was jamming out to, seriously embarrassingly jamming out, as in hoping my shouts would reach the ears of Jesus, jamming out. That is when it hit me that the cultural Christian phrases rising in popularity, you know the ones “Focus on what you want. God’s favor is on your life.” “If you ask anything of God-that YOU want-He will give it to you!” “You can DO anything and BE anything that YOU want to be because NOTHING is impossible for God!”, are so blatantly defying God’s word. God has been bringing this to my attention a lot lately. The other day I was talking to a young lady that I meet with for Bible study. She is a college student and surrounded by people telling her similar phrases of “be all you want to be because it is all about you, so of course God will allow it.”

But wait a minute. Colossians 3:23-24 says:

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,  since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Did you get that? Whatever we do, we should work at it with ALL of our heart because we are working for THE LORD. Please do not miss this. We are working for the Lord, the God of the universe. We are not working for ourselves or our own betterment but for God. It goes on to say that we are serving Christ, not ourselves. I know, I know that may sound a little defeating at first, but wait for it… When we are serving God and working for HIM with all of our hearts, our work for Him matters for E.T.E.R.N.I.T.Y!

Please hear me. If we are building up ME, ME, ME, that work is SO fleeting. Who cares if we own a million-dollar company or if our name is in lights for a brief time?

1 Timothy 1:17-19 says:

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”

Hope in God provides us with EVERYTHING we need for our enjoyment! When we are rich in helping people, quick to give to all in need, and sewing good for God’s glory, THEN our treasure is ETERNAL and so very fulfilling. It’s all about HIM not us.

So friend, you may be saying, “I know this truth”. I just want to ask you, “How well do your children know this truth?” I ask you this because just the other day my sweet,  big hearted daughter danced right up to me and said, “Mommy, I am the queen.”

Sure, it seemed innocent at first, but she kept going. “I am the queen of the world!  I’m in charge!” I stopped her and reminded her that we are servants of Jesus. When we decide to follow Him with our IMG_1001.jpglives, we lay ourselves down and choose to live for Him every day and THAT is so fulfilling within because our hearts are made for Him alone. (Because it IS a DAILY decision, sometimes multiple times a day. The struggle is real, ya’ll, let’s just be honest.) She has not decided to follow Jesus yet, so her four-year-old heart is still processing what is truth and what is not between what the world tells us (sometimes this even means the kids at church) and what the Bible tells us. She had lots of really good questions. She did not understand or like all of the answers, but that is ok. She needs God’s truth even at the age of four. We ALL need God’s truth. We are never too far that He cannot reach us, and we have most definitely NEVER “arrived”. For all have fallen short, ya’ll.

I just want to encourage you, sister. Be louder than the world! Seek Jesus, live for Him and HIS glory. Though the world may tell us to build ourselves up, continue to choose to die to yourself every day and live for Jesus. If you lose a battle one day, remember that our Savior has already won the war. So, get back up and try again! His mercies are made new each morning.

Strive to live in His truth while walking in His grace, and together, may we be louder than the world at teaching our children the TRUTH of Christ.

“Because He made you to do everything little thing that you do to bring a smile to His face..”

It is really a good song. You should listen to it, seriously.

I’m walking this road with you, and I am praying for you, my sister.

Father, may it be said of our lives that we ‘walked with You’ just as it was said of Enoch. May you be glorified in all we say and do, Jesus. May we lay our own desires down, so we can live for You each day and glorify your name. Lord, strengthen and sustain us. Give us the humility to repent and live in Your grace when we fail. Lead us to the cross every day. May our lives be for Your glory alone and not our own. To God be the glory forever. We love you, Lord. Amen.

Hello friends! I'm Shannon. Some of my favorite things are: Jesus, my husband Paul, my sweet little ones, garage sale-ing, traveling, testing out new recipes, crafting, saving money, CoLlEgE fOoTbAlL (Go gators and bulldawgs!), and a good, cold glass of sweet tea! Though life can get crazy, I strive to keep my eyes focused on Jesus while loving on and blessing others. I have found that through blessing others, I always end up being blessed. You just can't outdo God. :)
